New eggs

The younger hens (almost five months old) are finally starting to lay.  For comparison, the regular sized eggs from mature chickens are on top and eggs from the young layers are on the bottom. Although smaller in size for now, they are still healthy and very tasty. All smaller eggs are half-price until they reach mature size. Available at the market this Tuesday.

A treat for the hens

Chickens have no problem with their usual diet of grains, bugs and greens but it’s fun to give them something extra now and then.  Usually that something extra tends to be leftover watermelon rinds, vegetable cuttings or leftover bread.  Yesterday it was a giant pot of fresh raw goat milk and they wasted no time diving in like gluttons and making a mess of themselves.  A half hour later the pot was empty and their feathers were free of milk as if nothing ever happened.WP_20140613_18_38_17_Pro
